About the Book

Now what?

It’s a common question after – even during – MFA graduation ceremonies. You’ve written your thesis, mastered your craft, and discovered the depth of your creativity. But how do you parlay your skills into a lifetime of productive writing? How do you use your degree to maximize personal and professional satisfaction?

Wondering if writing retreats are worth the money? Need ideas for building your personal brand? Take advice from those who have been there.

Now What? The Creative Writer’s Guide to Success after the MFA is a collaborative, all-volunteer publishing project created by MFA graduates and faculty. Through dozens of articles, essays and resources, contributors share wisdom, advice, instruction, inspiration and time-tested tips for making writing a permanent part of your life, whether as a career, a hobby, or anywhere in between. Topics range from adjunct teaching and corporate careers to software tools and health insurance. From inspiration and goal setting to blogging and free-lancing. Wondering if writing retreats are worth the money? Need ideas for building your personal brand? Take advice from those who have been there. Click here to review the table of contents.

Now What? was created and published exclusively by alumni and faculty of the Fairfield University MFA in Creative Writing program. The program’s Alumni Association aims to encourage maximum creative output and achievement not only for Fairfield graduates, but for serious writers everywhere. In this spirit of community, Fairfield volunteers committed more than 1,000 collective hours to plan, write, edit, produce, and distribute this one-of-a-kind resource, with new, updated editions planned for the future. It’s a lot of work, but just like your own magnum opus, it’s most certainly a labor of love.
